CENTER OF THE PERFORMING ARTS

The proposal was primarily conceived as an element of integration between the community and the performing arts. The idea was to integrate it to the existing urban fabric as a new public centre for the arts that tones in with the street’s existing buildings.  The use of pure grey and white cubes in the facade makes a facade in tone with the street’s existing buildings.     This integration occurs in the interior of the building as well. The Ground Floor works as an open public place where the community can experience the Performing Arts. This floor also houses Library space and communal areas.   Since is all about performing, the big central skylight and the translucent interior makes it easy to observe performances from almost anywhere in the building.  The implementation of translucent walls and interior glass windows makes it easy to observe performances from almost anywhere in the school. The spaces interact with each other by being open and translucent, providing a wide range of visual experiences for the student, the instructor, and the spectator.  A game of heights, ramps, light and voids offers the user a dynamic interaction with the building and its program. This dynamism creates the desirable atmosphere for a performing art’s centre.
